What Are You Wearing Right Now?

Not some kinky question. It’s to do with self-care and productivity

Do you get dressed for working from your home office?

Until recently, I didn’t.

I had so many reasons not to.

Too eager to get to work fast (at my kitchen table turned office), trying to find some gigs and make some money. Thought I would lose momentum. Didn’t think it mattered. Even relished not bothering how I looked, since I wasn’t going out anyway. Still resisting my mum’s standards of ‘personal presentation’ as the essence of the universe.

For a Zoom call, I might put on a dash of tinted moisturiser and some mascara. But I didn’t bother dressing up any more than that. I felt super efficient jumping behind the computer in whatever I’d been wearing the day before or whatever I slept in.

Until I came across the subject ‘default or deliberate’, in a recent writers podcast by one of my favourite writing coaches.
